Dee Petersen’s
education background is in nursing, management, and adult
education. She
began her work in the healing arts in 1968 upon receiving a
BSN Degree from UNC Chapel Hill; and later received a MA
Degree from Appalachian State University.
Her work experience has been 36 years in nursing where
she has been coordinator for a community college nursing
program, a director of nursing for a local community hospital,
the coordinator of a local hospice program and the practice
manager for a physician practice. Her personal experience has
been 13 years as a cancer survivor during which time she has
become a student of alternative/ complimentary approaches to
health and wellness. Through her own healing process, she
developed a deep awareness of the profound relationship
between the body, mind and spirit in maintaining health and
well being. Currently, she is the president of her own
multifaceted business, Great To Be Alive, the purpose of which
is to inspire and assist others to a healthy balanced life.
Dee participates as a
personal success coach for the Total Success Institute. In
addition, she was hand picked by Bob Proctor (an
internationally acclaimed best selling author, speaker,
personal growth coach) as one of a select few to facilitate
powerful personal growth programs on the principles of
prosperity. She
has used the principles of prosperity thinking in her own
healing as well as her personal and financial life. Dee is
also a certified Brain Gym® Instructor and Consultant and
utilizes this modality to enhance her work with wellness
clients.
Dee
Petersen was born in 1946 and feels that she is transitioning
to the 2nd third of her life. The first third involved a
traditional nursing career, lots of volunteer work in the
areas of cancer and terminal care/hospice, a personal
experience with breast cancer in 1991, experience with three
network marketing companies that market wellness products, a
divorce after 11 years of marriage, a new marriage 24 years
ago. Dee is a family person and enjoys a wonderful
relationship with her husband, Walt, who has been a true
blessing in her life, and her son’s family (three
grandchildren). She
enjoys the privilege of working out of her home office in the
North Carolina mountains.
For fun, she enjoys playing with their two amazing
canines, nature walks in the mountains, rides on the Blue
Ridge Parkway, and restful get-a-away weekends at B & Bs
and special secluded places.
Dee
is also committed to the well-being of her community. The
primary focus of her volunteer work has been in the area of
breast health education since 1994 when she joined the
Southern Appalachian Leadership Initiative Against Cancer (SALIC)
and started the Ashe County Women’s Cancer Support Group. In
1997, she received the Volunteer of the Year Award in Ashe
County for her work in this area.
Prior to establishing her own wellness business, Dee
was employed as the Project Manager for the Blue Ridge Cancer
Coalition, a five-county coalition with the purpose of
“saving lives through cancer education and prevention”.
Dee is involved actively in the CARE (Christians Actively
Reaching Everyone) ministry of her church. She is a recent
graduate of the Ashe County Leadership Challenge and a member
of the newly-formed business group, Women In Networking (WIN),
the mission of which is to support
and empower working women in our community.
Dee’s goals for the
future are to focus totally in the present moment as she
consistently works toward financial independence through the
expansion of her Great To Be Alive business.
This will allow her to focus her energies on her major
goal of facilitating a “center for health and well-being”
in the area where she lives.
TSI has been
transformational for Dee. In her own words: “I feel truly
alive and engaged in living ‘on purpose’ as a result of
the work I have done in the TSI classes. I have emerged from
this work truly a new human being after uncovering and
discovering how I have held myself back from becoming the
person that I was created to be. I value myself for what I
have to offer and I am able to take calm focused action toward
my intentions for my life – rather than sinking into the
immobilization of overwhelm as I had previously done.”
As a result of
participating in the supportive TSI community, Dee has
produced the following very tangible results in her life: occupation
~ launching a
totally new career that is fed by her passion for service to
others and opening her own business; physical ~
adhering to an aggressive wellness plan and achieving her
ideal weight; financial ~ completing a total revision
of the family
financials, decreasing current debt by $7000 and maintaining
the commitment of no additional debt for the past 12 months; relationship
~ carrying all 4 of her significant family relationships to a
new level through the application of new listening and
responding skills; social ~ establishing new healthier
friendships and contributing to her community through new
volunteer efforts in the business arena; personal ~
facing her fear and literally climbing to the top of a
mountain that she would not have been able to do before.
What works for Dee is life long learning and work
on personal improvement, on-going development of communication
skills – asking, listening and responding to the needs of
herself and others and having a team of supportive people that
encourage and hold her accountable for her actions. She has
become a permanent part of the TSI coaching community in order
to ensure her continued growth and change and to provide value
to others. Dee
welcomes new TSI clients to an exciting journey and highly
recommends the process to anyone who chooses to give
themselves the gift of development, self awareness, growth,
change and RESULTS in
the key areas of their life – with TSI, not growing is not
an option!
