BBC VIDEO NATION FILM Who's
the daddy
Gavin
Allinson completed his BS in Applied Biology at the University
Of Bath, England in 1992 where he graduated with honors. He
was born in Melbourne, Australia and moved with his parents
to Cardiff, Wales at the age of 9. Gavin now lives in Oxford, England
Gavin
is an outstanding athlete and has played rugby for several
regional and national teams including South Glamorgan Schools;
Victoria (Australia) and represented Coventry Rugby Club in
National League for 3 seasons. In 2001, Gavin took up the
challenge of rowing and achieved selection for his club competing
at the famous Henley Royal Regatta in 2003 and
2004and 2005, the premier Rowing
championship in Europe which draws upwards of 75K attendees.
Gavin credits his TSI experience in enabling him to improve
his technique and his results. In 2005 Gavin also represented
his adopted Country Wales in the Home Countries
International Rowing Event, held in Cardiff.
Gavin
spent the early part of his career in sales within the medical
equipment industry, specializing in Critical Care areas
where he achieved some excellent results and was the top
producing sales person. At this time Gavin was
approached by a customer and joined a Network
Marketing Company, it was here that he was first introduced to
the world of Personal Development. The products were great,
the people positive, however when I look back 'I spent more
time listening to tapes, reading books, thinking about my
business, going to seminars and reciting affirmations than
I did building my business'.
I
could not understand what was stopping me taking the action
that I needed to take to get the results that I wanted.
Gavin
changed industries and moved into Executive Search/Headhunting, 'I learnt valuable skills in finding out what
a person wants and influencing them to take action based on
the facts rater than on emotional decisions'. He was
excited about a new challenge and again learnt all the lines
and the techniques to be a successful headhunter,
however yet again he did not put into practice the skills that
he had learnt. The reason for my lack of action became
clear after a call with Cliff Stockamp the Founder of
Total Success Institute. It was a pivotal point in my life
(I'll come back to this later)
“Initially
I had decided to enroll in the 101 course because my life was entering
a new phase, I was going to be a father imminently and I was
uncertain about what I was going to do to earn a living. I
had taken courses in property investment and stock trading
and had implemented some of the ideas, I had a lot of great
information stored away but I hadn’t transferred it
into experiences and results. This is a common failing with
the aftermath of most personal development courses I had previously
undertaken and is an area where I have found that TSI stands
apart.
The
TSI process forced me to create the experiences
that required me to stretch and grow. I also recognized that
I needed a mentor to hold me accountable, little did I realize
that with the multiple levels of accountability structured
within the TSI process I would end up with 7 mentors ( the
5 other members of my class and the 2 coaches). What a bargain!”
On
my initial Free Coaching Call I was asked what would you
ideally like to be doing? My response was 'Doing what
your doing would be pretty cool!' Amazingly I had
started the process of becoming a coach within 6 months and
less than 2 years later I am a Coach and an integral part of
the Management team here at TSI. I couldn't have asked
for more than the opportunity I have right now.
Gavin
had met his partner Lorna at their rowing Club in 2001 and
they decided
early on that they were an excellent match for each
other. They were fortunate to have their first child
together, Jack in September 2003. Gavin
is enjoying being a father; ‘it was truly an amazing
experience being present at his birth and I am more excited
about life than I have ever been’. Jack joins Lorna’s
16-year-old daughter Niamh to complete the household. Now that
Jack is 15 months old Gavin takes great delight in combining
his role as a TSI Coach and the Director of Operations for TSI
with being a stay at home Dad spending valuable time with Jack
and managing the household, while Lorna pursues her career as
a Head teacher of a High School.
'Each
week I take Jack Swimming twice, we also attend a music group and
go to a toddler gym session each week. On the weekends in the mornings I train for
rowing and spend the afternoons and evenings with Lorna, Jack
and Niamh'
Gavin’s TSI
experience has been instrumental in moving his relationship
with Lorna to a higher level and maintaining peace and harmony
in the household. ‘My relationship with Lorna has developed
more depth, it was pretty good before, however our conversations
now are much
in depth we react less than we used to and overall we are
extremely happy'. Returning to that pivotal call I had with
Cliff...In
the week after the call I accomplished more than I had done
in the previous 6 months combined, I had suddenly come
alive.
I
discovered the major thing that had been blocking me and
stopping we from performing to the level I am capable
of.
Better
still I have kept up that higher level of production, it was
not a flash in the pan, it was a real significant shift that I
made and is backed up by sustained results.
I
have recognized that I am valuable and have made
significant contributions not only to my life but to those
around me.
“Gavin
is one of those rare people that has a real desire to excel
yet he also has the unique ability to make people feel very
comfortable around him and has been gifted with a very keen
mind. He’s a great addition to our Coaching Team.”
