|
Laurel
Stockamp
was raised in a large family with 6 other brothers and
sisters. During her early years her mother provided the
leadership and framework that shaped her thinking and
philosophy. Christian music and singing were a part of our
every day activities. “We sang songs while we worked and
sang songs while we played. We even say songs while fighting,
each one trying to sing louder and over the top of the
other.” She went
to private Christian schools during her primary and secondary
educations and loved to memorize the poetry of the ancient
verses and explore its meaning. Life was simple and happy
until a step father came into the family. Life changed
abruptly. He brought with him a 1948 Chevrolet with a vacuum
shift that did not like being in any gear except first. “I
learned to drive a straight shift with that car, and jumped my
way down many a street in our city.”
Laurel
marred her high
school sweetheart, and together they dreamed of heading out
west and buying a horse ranch, but he needed to finish his
college education so
Laurel
worked while he
went to school. Ten years later some of their dreams were
realized. They were blessed with a beautiful daughter and 3
handsome sons, her husband started his own excavating company
and they moved west. About 20 miles! She
was called to be a mother and homemaker and was thankful that
she could remain at home with the children while her husband
was seeking his dream of building his own company and being
his own boss.
During
those years
Laurel
went to
Indiana
University
with her eye
toward a degree in teaching.
In 1970 she was asked to supervise
the start of small Christian school
and stayed in that position for 7 years. The school grew and
thrives today. The call of network marketing enticed her and
she jumped in with both feet. She held meetings in her home
and when the crowd became too large she and other leaders
moved into hotels. “Those were wonderful years of growing
and stretching, and I was well on my way to becoming a National
Director,
then, the marketing plan was changed to benefit the few at the
very top.”
Network
marketing introduced
Laurel
to the seminar
and self-improvement industry. From Jim Rohn and Les Brown to
Zig Zigler and the wonder of “self actualization, growth and
exploration sessions.” Boy, did I learn how to breathe and
sweat and twirl around. I was
always excited during the seminar. Just maybe this is the one
that will set me on a new path. I purchased tapes and more
tapes, and then some books and of course more tapes and yes
the videos.”
She became a Toastmaster in 1990 and held the many offices and
won speech contest at the Club and Area level and then
competed at the Division level. She saw the importance of
learning how to conduct meetings and became a member of the
American Institute of Parliamentarians and served as secretary
and president of her local chapter.
Today
Laurel loves being with her 6 grandchildren when ever possible
and has found the challenge and excitement
of becoming a life coach with Total Success Institute
her great adventure “Becoming
a coach with TSI is like a fine piece of wood that has been
polished and honed until the character of the wood is
evident.”
